Dr. Stanisław Grodź (Director)

Born in Mikołajki in north-eastern Poland in 1964; joined the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD) in 1984; took part in the Overseas Training Programme in Ghana in 1988-90 during his seminary formation time; ordained a priest in 1994; worked as an assistant parish priest in Rybnik, Poland (1994-95).
Studied theology and the study of religions: M.Th. at the Catholic University of Lublin (1994; thesis: ‘Development of Islam in the territories of the present-day Ghana till 1957’, supervisor: Prof. Henryk Zimoń SVD); student of ‘Religions in Africa’ at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London (1997-98; lectures by Prof. Louis Brenner and Paul Gifford); M.A. in Islamic Studies (with distinction), University of Birmingham, Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, Selly Oak Colleges (1999; thesis: ‘Towards Spiritual Reconciliation. Early development of Amadou Hampâté Bâ’s ecumenical ideas’, supervisor: Dr. Sigvard von Sicard); doctorate at the Catholic University of Lublin (2003; dissertation: ‘Trends in African Christology in their indigenous cultural context’ (supervisor: Prof. Henryk Zimoń SVD).
He worked as a lecturer at the Department of the History and Ethnology of Religion, John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), Poland (2003-2016); in 2006 on study/research leave (eight months in Ghana).
A member of Anthropos Institute since 2005; moved to Sankt Augustin in 2016 and in October 2017 became the director of Anthropos Institute, Sankt Augustin.
