Abstract. – In this linguocultural article authors analyze multilingual identical texts of the Lord’s Prayer from the comparative viewpoint. The source of the prayer text is the Gospel of Matthew. The prayer texts in Old Greek, Latin, Church Slavonic, Gothic, German and English are investigated. The authors also consider the Old High German, Middle High German, Old English, and Middle English versions of that text. A particular emphasis is placed on morphological, syntactical, lexical, compositional, stylistic, and semantic particularities of the Lord’s Prayer, as implemented into specific cultural and historical settings. Special attention is also given to the notion “sacral” as a necessary attribute of a prayer text. [Lord’s Prayer, sacral text, religious language, cultural-linguistic analysis]
