The process of building up the meaning of an island is established from countless narratives intertwined according to each observer and his approach tools. As it is a complex natural and cultural phenomenon that evoke an interpretive process so it needs an interdisciplinary approach. This article aims to access this meaning via a territorial narrative of Araújos Island, on the Doce River, in the city of Governador Valadares/Minas Gerais/Brazil. We chose as a source of this research the narrative written down by Parajara do Santos, editor of an only edition of Revista da Ilha (Island Magazine). When using Burkean Dramatism instruments, this narrative reveals a mystical perspective that involves the dynamic process of transforming an island-nature-forest into an island-urban-territory, wrapped in the entrepreneurial spirit of its first inhabitant, Joaquim Alves Araújo.
