Michael Dürr: Los confesionarios en lengua mixteca del siglo XVI, 43–50

Abstract

Missionary texts written in the indigenous languages of Mesoamerica contain important information regarding the encounter of the Hispano-Christian culture and the local indigenous cultures in colonial times. Among these documents, confessionals stand out in particular, as they offer rare insights into the social life of the time and, most notably, into the religious practices that were condemned as “pagan” by the clergy. This article presents three previously unknown confessionals in Mixtec, which have been preserved in two 16th-century manuscripts.
